3. Men don't fear swords. They fear monsters.

Title: quote from Dracula Untold movie.

Last Tuesday I went to finally see Dracula Untold with Luke Evans as Vlad The Impaler. Now I'm sitting in front of my computer, in my favourite oversized red sweater & with my mint apple tea, trying to organize my thoughts about this movie.
Well... (I really should stop starting sentences with 'well')

Since I saw a teaser trailer few months ago, I was hoping that this is the movie I am waiting for. That it's more historical than vampire movie. Thank heavens that it wasn't my only reason why I wanted to see it.

Let's be honest here. As a historical movie about Vlad III Dracula (also known as Vlad The Impaler, or just Dracula) it's pretty bad. No chronological order. No real names. It was very hard for me to not start screaming, that he's wife was not Mirena, and his son should be named Minhea. His first wife, which name we don't know, threw herself off the tower into the Argeş River below the castle during surrounding the Poenari castle by Turkish army, yes but they were led by Vlad's brother Radu, not by sultan Mehmed. In the whole movie there were more and more historical mistakes, but as much as I wanted to see something good about Vlad, I was also hungry for a Dracula movie that I can enjoy.

Dracula Untold is a very nice movie about medieval superhero. At the moment, when we live in era of unconditional love for heroes from comic books, the true story about Vlad The Impaler could be a missed shot in the taste of consumers. Some of us may want to see a movie with a plot worth remembering, but producers want to sell their product, and that's why Dracula is full of  visual effects, poor storyline and few technical fails. However, we must take a moment to appreciate Luke Evans as Vlad. He was a perfect choice!

As a movie about Vlad The Impaler, from me Dracula Untold gets 2 stars, but as a superhero movie it gets 8 stars from 10.

Alex is very happy to hear, that it is possible that Luke Evans will be Dracula in more movies. *happydance*

  3. True story about Vlad would be more of a dramatic movie than action movie, and that is not how vampires are seen in today's movie culture. It would be unprofitable, as it could maybe win some awards from festivals like Sundance but would not top the box office.
Shame because I would like to see it done this way for once..
